The École Polytechnique massacre, also known as the Montreal massacre, occurred on December 6, 1989, at the Ecole Polytecnique in Montreal Quebec, Canada.
I know college and universities across our nation are observing this tragic event in some way.
Let’s take some time out of our day to reflect on this somber occasion.
Violence against women must be stopped. Please speak out against it at every opportunity.
“2014 marks 25 years since the shooting. Every Dec. 6, Canadians remember the 14 victims, and recognize the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. Because there is still a need — roughly one in two women in this country over the age of 16 has experienced physical or sexual violence, according to the Canadian Women’s Foundation. And almost 70 per cent of Canadians say they know at least one woman who has experienced this type of abuse” (Patel, 2014). http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2014/12/06/ecole-polytechnique-massacre-25-anniversary_n_6263218.html
