The first day of class can feel like a foreign country. It is my responsibility to develop and atmosphere of cohesion and safety. This can be accomplished by setting a tone of respect, curiosity and humour. Foster a learning environment where people are able to open up, make mistakes, and challenge themselves. I need to remember that I will always in a perceived position of power so it is important that remain accessible, open, and supportive. Only when I have earned their trust and respect will the group really to learn.
